Laura Schnoor

Dr. Laura Schnoor has been a staple of Mid North Animal Hospital since 1991, when she graduated from the University of Illinois. She is interested in soft tissue surgery and loves helping dogs and cats! Outside of work, Dr. Schnoor enjoys gardening, cooking (and boy is she talented!), traveling, reading, and anything associated with a warm, sunny day. She also loves spending time with her rescued Boxer, Jorie, and their four cats. You might catch a peek of Jorie one day as she loves coming to work with her mom and helps keep an eye on all of our patients!

Dr. Ross Mahowald
Veterinarian

Ross Mahowald

Dr. Ross joined Mid North Animal Hospital in December, 2006.  He moved to the Chicago area after spending 12 years in Toledo, OH  in a large, 24/7 verterinary hospital where he had practiced since graduating from Ohio State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994.  He is currently pursuing specialty certification as a General Practicioner with a concentration in feline medicine.

Dr. Ross’ areas of interest include feline medicine, general medicine and wellness, cardiology, laser surgery, and ultrasound.  He is also interested in practice management and is the IT person for our practice as well (which is why some days you may see him operating on a computer instead of a dog or cat).

In his spare time he enjoys working on his condo, the movies, history, eating out, biking, and exploring the city of Chicago.  He lives in the Andersonville area, and often commutes the five miles to work by bike in the warmer months.

She loves spending time with her boyfriend and their cats, and when not at work you'll find Miriam enjoying the outdoors, going to concerts, cooking, or relaxing with her feline crew.

He is becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician and is obtaining his degree from San Juan College. His favorite parts of his job are running samples in our in-house laboratory, being involved with all aspects of anesthesia, and “helping to make sick pets better and improving their quality of life.” He is the proud father of two dogs, K.C. and Charlie, and five cats, Old Man Wallace, Bria, Nerys, Millie, and Kaleb (a “tripod” rescue!) Sean loves working out! He also enjoys reading, relaxing with his family at home, and being our hospital weatherman.

Aimee

Aimee has been at Mid North since 1999 and is a veterinary technician. She loves “working with our great staff and meeting all of the amazing pets we see,” and all of the amazing pets agree! She grew up and went to school in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area and brings her many years of animal experience and neighborhood familiarity to our hospital. She lives with her husband and their son, and all of their animals, all of whom have been adopted, either being found as strays or coming to Aimee in need. Outside of work, Aimee enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering with rescue organizations, volunteering at her son’s school, and finding new ways to help the environment!

JP
Veterinary Technician

JP

JP started with us November 2015 as a veterinary technician and brings with him years of animal hospital experience as well as a B.S. in Animal Science from U of I. His favorite part of his job is learning the science behind the medicine and getting to meet all of our patients! He's the proud dad to a Chihuahua named Skunk (all black with a white stripe) and a sweet kitty named Trapper! JP is an avid comic book nerd with a love for superheros and sharks! Outside of work, JP enjoys cooking, anything to do with food, and watching soccer.

Shauna
Veterinary Assistant

Shauna

Shauna has been one of our receptionists/veterinary assistants since August 2013 and she brings great energy with her everyday! She enjoys getting to meet all of the animals and talking to their owners. In fact, she loves being around animals so much that she changed her educational career to focus more on helping them! She and her boyfriend are the proud parents of three Chihuahuas, Chloe (the diva), Chase (the chubba bubba), and Trey (the happy-go-lucky guy).

Aubrey
Veterinary Assistant

Aubrey

Aubrey started in June 2015 at Mid North Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant and is now one of our veterinary technicians. She is a recent graduate from UIC where she received a degree in Biological Sciences. She plans on being a veterinarian and has already started the application process for veterinary school! Her favorite part of her job is the ever increasing knowledge she is receiving with her hands-on experience with us. She has three cats, K.P, Domino, and Jubilee, as well as a super handsome and spoiled Fennec Fox named Kyuubi. When not at work, you'll find Aubrey making pottery, hanging out with her friends and family, going to the zoo, watching CutThroat Kitchen, knitting, and learning!

Maria joined our front staff team as a receptionist and veterinary assistant in April 2016. Maria loves learning all aspects of her job, including the different medications and surgeries that pets can receive. She brings with her worldly experience from living overseas and also offers pet-sitting in her free time. She loves spending time with and walking the dogs that she sits for, as well as showcasing her impressive art skills with her drawings, paintings, and encaustics. Maria's dog, Flicka, is a favorite amongst our hospital staff.

Angela
Veterinary Technician

Angela

Angela started with Mid North Animal Hospital in July 2017 as a certified veterinary technician with her degree from Fox College. She is now continuing her animal education by studying Biology at UIC. Angela’s favorite part of her job is helping patients when they’re sick and seeing how much better they feel after their visit! At home, she has two dogs, Princess and Tazer, several fish, and Castiel and Gabriel, her two cuddly chinchillas! Outside of work, Angela loves watching Netflix, attending baseball games, and playing board games.

"Everyone is very friendly when we arrive with our dogs. We have had a few emergencies with our dogs and I always feel very confident that my dogs' health is the highest priority. The follow up from the office when my dog was in the emergency room overnight was extremely appreciated. I felt that the practice cared just as much for my pets as I did. This type of attentiveness is exactly why I would never go to another practice."

"Everything is great. The staff (both drs & reception) are amazing which is why we keep coming back. Miriam is extremely knowledgable and helpful for whatever we need. Our pups love going to the vet!"

"Everyone is always so great towards me and Bella. I'm so happy I have such a great vet office, keep up the good work :)"

"The staff is always so friendly and you can tell that they love their jobs. Every pet is greeted with enthusiasm and compassion."

""Value" is a tough thing - veterinary care is expensive. The line-item receipt really helps me understand all of the components of a visit and a checkup. There's never getting around the 'gulp factor' when it's time to pay...but I feel that my pets are getting excellent, and not excessive, care."

"Your "front of the house" people are great. Miriam and the rest are efficient and courteous, and clearly know and love our dogs. Can't buy that."

"Dr. Schnoor has treated our dogs since weaning, 9 years ago. She is professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. She helped save my female dog's life a few years ago, for which I will always be grateful. Dr. Ross has been a great addition. He is also conscientious and well informed. Human hospitals could learn a lesson."

"Dr. Ross is very thorough and professional. He takes time with clients to review pet status and healthcare planning. The support staff is great with the animals."

"I really appreciated the follow up email I received from the doctor asking if I had any additional questions"

"Something I really appreciated about this office is that the woman who made my reservation for Dylan actually remembered him (and loved him) from his stay while with Feline Friends. It's nice to know that the staff are not just veterinary professionals, but also animal lovers."
